I just got back my results for physics and math. As expected, I am on the verge of failing. After all, no one would do well if they studied 3 hours a day for a week and watches YouTube for nearly 12 hours.
Such, is the horrendous level of my concentration. Living in the technological age, as many would have already found out, is incredibly distracting. Especially with explosion of web 2.0 and social networks, the modern man can no longer focus on a single task, and have to catch up the constant bombardment of updates from their social circle.
One who is brave enough to ignore social networking probably must endure the solitude that it brings.
Thankfully, we don't actually have to do that. Simple steps that I am going go take are going to be my lifesaver (hopefully).
1) Reduce use of twitter.
Oh surely twitter is a convenient place to talk about your feelings, yet it has slowly turned into a time eating monster with its useless spam tweets and complains. Not that I am against procrastination or complains, but reading them every half an hour from different people takes a drain on my own mental capacity to actually do work. Furthermore, there isn't really much need to know every little spec of other people's lives.
2) Lock plurk
Since the class community is back up again, I am going to freeze it again. The karma thing is too much for me to handle. One, my life isn't all that interesting. Two, I will be annoying if I just keep plurking cat pictures.
3) No YouTube until weekends
The iPhone app for YouTube is easily accessible but I really need to stop watching them, especially since I am subscribed to over 70 channels. YouTube is like tv, without restriction on what your watching. And since tv makes your mind less active, I assume YouTube does the same. So, myself, if you want to lose your intellects, go ahead and watch them constantly. Also, no more Starcraft streams! Husky and HD are enough!
My lack of concentration has driven me to this critical point of time in my life, that, I hope it works. If not, my future will be disastrous as I definitely cannot catch up without studying hard...
